New threats like an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) to our comfort, security and Lifestyle are popping up faster that Spring flowers, and sadly, we have to address these very real disheartening probabilities, not possibilities, but probabilities.
I have never been one to sit on my hiney and anticipate the inevitable or watch paralyzed in fear. I just do not operate that way. If there is trouble from any direction, I want to be prepared. So when everyone else freaks out and scrambles for last minute un-preparedness, I already have my war paint on.
A Faraday cage is an 'enclosure' (keyword) that is used to block electromagnetic (EM) fields. The enclosure is an 'unbroken' conducting shell. In that shell (enclosure) put your electronic devices. The shell, the enclosure, the Faraday Cage will prevent the entry or escape of EM fields.
You will see on YouTube many types of Faraday cages, but below is by far the easiest, quickest and probably the cheapest. When I saw it on YouTube I yelled, "We did that in college" so I know it works.
I am a Gemini with two (2) of everything - laptops, cell phones, iPads, ear buds, bluetooth speakers, it doesn't matter, I have two (2). One for me, and one for the other me.
Below you will see a picture of my Faraday cage made out of a 6 gallon galvanized steel bucket by Behrens. Notice that all of the seams on the lid and the bucket are covered with the aluminum tape. It's quite thick. And that's pretty much it.
You can line the bucket in cardboard, a rubber bucket, a silicon bucket or a plastic bucket. It does not matter. This will cushion your devices from the metal. DO NOT ... REPEAT ... DO NOT line the lid in cardboard or that will prevent the tight seal from the lid to the bucket. That seal MUST BE tight.
I also bought Faraday bags and THEY WORK! I can put one phone in a bag and call with the other phone and the phone in the bag DOES NOT ring. My iPads that I use to teach yoga every morning and not drained of their batteries by incidental static electricity. The bags are awesome. I keep my laptops when not in use in the Faraday cage along any other small electronic devices. I have another Faraday cage for all battery powered devices like flashlights, AM/FM radio, the battery caddy, etc. And that radio, it's a 'hand crank radio', which also takes batteries.
SEE THE VIDEO'S BELOW THE PICTURES BELOW. If you do not see the video due to the device you are on, use the link provided below the pics. There is also a list below of items to put into your Faraday cage.
