MERCURY SQUARE URANUS
This aspect is a seat of inner tensions. The tension of the square gives us motivation. Squares are dynamic aspects that give us the drive to succeed. What begins as an inner problem is overcome or accepted, and then becomes a door to understanding.
It is important to understand that Mercury rules the reasoning and conscious mind that forms conclusions. Mercury is intellectual, enjoys learning, teaches and is communicative. Uranus is the planet of a sudden change in circumstance, much like a lightning strike. Uranus also represents innovation, invention and independence. It literally strikes out and strikes out on its own, like lightning. Uranus is unconventional and electrifying; thereby bringing about sudden change in an instant, which can show up as being erratic.
This is the aspect that probably coined the phrase, "Hare-brained or hair-raising ideas." Usage Note from TheFreeDictionary.com: The first recorded use of harebrained dates to 1548. The spelling hairbrained also has a long history, going back to the 1500s when hair was a variant spelling of hare. The hair variant was preserved in Scotland into the 1700s, and as a result it is impossible to tell exactly when people began writing hairbrained in the belief that the word means "having a hair-sized brain" rather than "with no more sense than a hare." While hairbrained continues to be used, the standard spelling of the word is harebrained.
Those who have this aspect in their chart are probably asked quite frequently, "Where in the world did you come up with that idea?!?!" That question might be asked because the person came up with an invention that was really 'out there' or the question might be asked because the individual made a snap judgment without any evidence to support their thinking. You can pretty much expect the mind to change suddenly when this aspect shows up. This aspect can and will make a decision based on insufficient evidence or any amount of experience or knowledge. It just makes you want to scratch your head when you see it or hear it. And if you are one who has this aspect in your chart, others may think you're a obstinate and egotistical.
