Activities of Daily Living
August 27th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

What area of my Life is just an act or it is for show?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Keep the shower door or shower curtain open after use to allow them to dry and prevent mildew. Yep, just let it dry.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Walk the dog, walk the kids or walk yourself. Take your pick. While the weather may be a problem in some areas, you can still walk the kids or yourself in a large indoor environment.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Buy products that have multiple uses and that will get the job done the first time, so you don't have to waste money buying additional products.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

You won't miss what you didn't have. Have your bank transfer a certain amount of money to your checking account from your savings account on a specific day of the month. Better yet, set it up online yourself so it always occurs on payday. Pay yourself first.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Less is more. Running around in a hurry, disorganized and stressed and then bragging about it is not showing how much you can do, it shows how much you can't do. It's not impressive. Schedule less because less is more.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

I keep a gallon of green tea in the refrigerator on a regular basis that I make on the stove with tea bags. Green tea is high in antioxidants and can help increase your metabolic rate.

Activities of Daily Living - Today's Healthful Nutrient

Choose two (2) of the 'Boron' foods below
and incorporate them into your diet today.

DESCRIPTION: Boron is a trace mineral and is only needed in trace amounts. It helps metabolize calcium to maintain healthy bones. So why even take Boron if so little is required? In a group of post-menopausal women studied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, boron was shown to significantly reduce the affect of calcium loss. So we can say that Boron is a sociable trace mineral with calcium and magnesium. It was also found that women who took Boron had double the blood level of the most active form of estrogen.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Helps protect against the demineralization of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus in our bones.

FOOD SOURCES: Almonds, cider, dates, fruits, grains, green leafy vegetables, nuts, peanuts, prunes, raisins, soybeans, and wine.
