Father, thank You for the reminder today that there is a time and a place for everything. All too often I try to make things work or fit into my timeline, so much so that I will even mix the old with the new or confuse the past with the present. Back in the times of Jesus, He used the example of wineskins because it was an easy visual for those He was teaching. No one would dare pour new wine into old wineskins because the new wine was still fermenting and the old wineskins were dried and hard. While the wine was fermenting, if poured into old hardened wineskins, the pressure from the gases alone would make the old wineskins burst. Mixing the old with the new or the past with the present did not make any sense. And so it goes with everything else in Life, there is a time and a place for everything, including the old and the new or the past and the present. Thank You once again for opening my eyes and helping me see straight through my own self-induced confusion. You are wonderful and I Love You!
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 5:33-39
33 And they said to Him, "The disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink."
34 Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days."
36 And He also told them a parable. "No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
37 Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
38 Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
39 (And) no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is Good.'"
