For a more enriching experience,
go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further
and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, today's reading is an eye-opening reminder that I must continually look ahead and keep my mind focused on You. The minute I look back or turn my mind in another direction, then my path becomes crooked just like the plowman who looks back and causes his furrow (trail) to be crooked.
Thank You for this wonderful awareness on the power of the word "but". In today's reading below, that one little word "but" revealed a lack of committment in those who said they wanted to follow Jesus, BUT actually had their mind on something else. 'But' negated everything they had just said. There was a temptation to look back at what was certain rather than look forward to uncertainty. What they didn't get was the certainty in the uncertainty, which was all about Faith and trust, which is in YOU! Thank You again for such a powerful reminder to keep my hands on the plow and my eyes looking forward on You.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 9:57-62
57 As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to Him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58 Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."
59 And to another He said, "Follow me." But he replied, "(Lord,) let me go first and bury my father."
60 But He answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
61 And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home."
62 (To him) Jesus said, "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God."
