Father, today's reading has a powerful message embedded in it that took me a while to see. While the woman from the crowd was acknowledging and complimenting Jesus' mother, He turned right around and gave the acknowledgment and compliment to You without skipping a beat. It was not second nature for Him to do this, it was first nature for Him to do this. The woman spoke of how blessed Jesus' mother was to have been the 'chosen one' to carry Him in the womb and give Him nourishment and then Jesus responds with a statement that tells her the source of all blessings is You. BAM! Just like that without skipping a beat, He turned the subject matter toward You and acknowledged Your existence and power. It was His first instinct. Jesus pointed out to the woman that the ones who are blessed are the ones who hear Your Word and actually do something about it (observe it). Mary could have heard Your Word and not responded at all or denied to herself that she heard anything. After all, an angel appearing to her and telling her that she was going to miraculously conceive a child without having had relations with a man does sound like a far stretch of the imagination. But Mary heard Your Word and observed it. She was in from the get go without hesitation or reservation. It was her first instinct to give You credit where credit was due. In Luke 1:46-48 she said that her soul magnifies You, her spirit rejoices in You and from now on all generations will call her blessed. Thank You for this awareness as I seek a closer relationship with You and openly acknowledge Your Presence in my Life.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 11:27-28
27 While He was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that carried You and the breasts at which You nursed."
28 He replied, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it."
