If I am the salt of the earth, how can I preserve, purify or penetrate and do Good?

Daily Quote for the Spiritual Progression Path

"We should all be obliged to appear before a board every five years, and justify our existence on pain of liquidation."

~George Bernard Shaw

Daily Affirmation for the Spiritual Progression Path

The Light shining from me is proof of God shining through me.

Daily Prayer for the Spiritual Progression Path

For a more enriching experience,
go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further
and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.

Father, the reading below is interesting as it stimulates me to wonder about something so simple as salt. Jesus always used very ordinary situations of things of the time in order to teach His message. Giving salt some due thought, I see how I have taken salt for granted. When I couple this with today's reading, I can see how I have also taken myself for granted. I think about how important salt was back in ancient times. Salt was traded then like we trade stocks, silver and gold today. Salt is also a natural purifer, penetrator and preservative. When Jesus tells us that we are the "salt of the earth" He is telling us that we are to be a natural purifer, penetrator and preservative of God's Word. And just like salt, if we lose our taste (saltiness) what Good are we to be used for? What would we do with salt if it lost its taste? If salt lost its flavor we certainty would not use it to purify, penetrate or preserve. Back in ancient times salt was extremely important and used to preserve meat because there was no electricity or refrigeration. The example of salt that Jesus used to deliver this message is important. We are to be the "salt of the earth, but if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer Good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

Thank You for this tasty example of how I am to live. I am to purify, penetrate and preserve in all wonderful and useful ways as does salt. I am to take care not to lose my flavor and maintain my value. Salt was valuable then, it is valuable today and so am I! Father, I believe there is so much that I can do with my Life and sometimes I find myself in a state of question undecided of which direction to go. I know that with Your assistance, absolutely anything is possible. Father help me to maintain a positive attitude and increase my confidence so that I can clearly feel You and hear You when You speak to my heart, knowing that You are working through me to fulfill Your Divine Purpose because I am Your salt of the earth.

Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~

Daily Scripture for the Spiritual Progression Path

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Matthew 5:13-16

[Jesus said to them . . .]

13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer Good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.

16 Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your Good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."
