Father, today's reading below brought two different things to my mind regarding Thomas. First, after everything Thomas had witnessed and experienced with Jesus, he was still a staunch disbeliever. How could he see and hear everything first-hand and still not believe anything was possible, including the fact that Jesus would resurrect Himself? The second thing is when everyone else sought fellowship with one another to grieve their loss, Thomas withdrew from all of them for eight days and went off to be alone. All of the apostles were experiencing sadness and grief and wanted to draw closer together, except Thomas, he sought to withdrawal.
Father, thank You for the awareness today that no matter what I am experiencing, there will always be others who feel the same way as me and I need to seek them out for fellowship and a connection. Wandering off by myself to figure it out alone may be what I want initially, but to remain disconnected from others who feel the same is unnecessary and can easily end up as selfish and self pity. I may have something to offer them, just as they may have something to offer me. Thank You for this lesson and the importance of fellowship and kinship with others.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
John 20:24-29
24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe."
26 Eight days later, His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you."
27 Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand, and place it in My side; do not be faithless, but believing."
28 Thomas answered Him, "My Lord and my God!"
29 Jesus said to Him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."
