When do I act or react so intellectually aware that I refuse to listen or be open to anything more than I already know?
"Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance."
~Confucius
I am open to understanding more than I already know.
For a more enriching experience, go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, today's reading below is a wonderful reminder to pay more attention to the way I pay attention. It is my job to tune in and listen to what is being said. I admit, sometimes my listening is prejudiced where I have formed an opinion without hearing what was being said. Sometimes my listening is shallow where I do not think things through clearly thereby lacking depth. Other times I am too preoccupied or too busy to listen while living in my own selfish world. Still, at other times I can be a Good and attentive listener when something interests me. I say that last line in a sarcastic tone because even my Good and attentive listening skills can be selfish when I'm only interested in what I'm interested in and not really what the other person is interested in. Father, help me to become a more open-mind listener, where I am not deaf or blind to information and/or higher knowledge. Help me to become more teachable and interested in all that Life places on my path. Thank You for this teachable moment that I will strive to remember through the rest of my days.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Matthew 13:10-17
10 Then the disciples came and said to Him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?"
11 And He answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
12 For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14 With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says: `You shall indeed hear but never understand, and you shall indeed see but never perceive.
15 For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn for me to heal them.'
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
17 Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."
