The Indians considered them sacred because their blue color was like the sky.
The Cherokee and the Pima Indians believed that at one time bluebirds were white or grey, then one day Bluebird found a lake up in the mountains. When Bluebird bathed in it, her feathers turned as blue as the sky.
Bird People should remember that all birds are messengers from Great Spirit.

Male Western Bluebirds have blue throats and male Eastern Bluebirds have orange-red throats. Male Mountain Bluebirds have no reddish coloration on their underparts. Females are more difficult to distinguish. Both Western and Mountain Bluebirds have gray throats and gray bellies while the Eastern Bluebird has a brownish throat and white belly.
The male and female Bluebirds keep in touch by bird calls and visual displays of affection. When the female forages and builds the nest, the male is close by signaling to her when it is safe to fly out of the nest to prevent other males from mating with her.
Blue Bird's message is about Love, happiness, joy and hope comes from within you and should be shared with another in the way of romantic Love. Just as two Love-birds should.
