Activities of Daily Living
September 7th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

Can I admit my wrong-doings or do I blame others for my choices and what I agreed to?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

The best way to extend the Life of your towel is to dry it properly so bacteria does not grow on it due to moisture. You can certainly use bath towel more than once provided you hang it up, put a fan on it or let it hang in the breeze to fully dry.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

If you have not used a particular muscle group in a while, then your muscles will get sore. Heat therapy or even hot baths will increase blood flow to the sore muscles. Stretching, even after walking, will lengthen and relax tight muscles.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

To remove grease or oil from carpets, suede boots or jackets, do not rub the area. Just sprinkle with a heavy layer of talcum powder over the oil and leave it. The powder will absorb the grease/oil.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Save your receipts on all food and beverage items that you spend during one full week that were not part of your grocery bill. That would be all breakfasts, lunches and dinners away from home, including snacks, cocktails, water and coffee's. Add it all up at the end of the week.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

You know if you are reliable or not. If you are not reliable, then you can pretty much count on always working for someone else. If you are reliable, then you might want to consider advancing yourself rather than waiting for others to advance you. It's called being an "entrepreneur".

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

It's getting to be soup weather. Do your research today on easy recipes to make your favorite soups. You can individually freeze soup in baggies or plastic ware to put in your lunch or for quick and easy dinners.
