Activities of Daily Living

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

You should wash your pillows 'at least' twice a year. Pillows can house bacteria, mold and yeast. If you have asthma, bronchitis, continual colds or even chronic diarrhea, you may need to wash your pillows.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Let's clear up two myths. When you workout fat DOES NOT turn into muscle. Fat and muscle are two completely different types of tissue. When you workout, the fat cells will decrease and the muscle tissue will increase. So you increase muscle and lose fat. And muscle DOES NOT weigh more than fat. 1 lb. of fat weighs the same as 1 lb. of muscle. Google it!

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

To clean your stainless steel. Mix a few drops of water with Cream of Tarter to create a milklike substance. Rub the substance into the appliance. You can also use a product called, Bar Keepers Friend, which is what I use and you can get at any hardware store. It works wonders.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Take care of your personal possessions because they cost you money. And if you borrow something, then return it in a reasonable amount of time because it cost someone else money. If you cannot be trusted with riches of your own, then why would you be entrusted with more? And if you cannot be trusted with riches that are not yours, then why should you be entrusted with your own? That's the Bible baby (Luke 16:11-12) and it makes perfect sense!

Louis Pasteur said, "Fortune favors the prepared mind." It has also been said, that he said, "Chance meets the prepared mind" and "Opportunity meets the prepared mind." No matter how you slice it, when you are mentally prepared, you are already half way there. Fortune, favor and opportunity find the one who thinks ahead and much further than only one step ahead.

Now is the time to get your seedlings going and prepare for your spring garden. Whether it is herbs, flowers or vegetables, you can get your seedlings sprouting early by starting early. And if you do not have a garden, you can still raise plenty of herbs indoors right at your kitchen window.
