Activities of Daily Living
November 28th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

What do I use as an excuse for not being all I can be?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Generally speaking, bagworms don't grow on a golf course because it is a well-manicured environment with plenty of water and healthy nutrients. Remember to water your soil today by drinking half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Drinking water is by far, one of the most healthy and hygienic things you can do for your body. Just think of what a golf course would look like without water.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

If you plan on dogging down on leftovers today, then you best get your body moving today or else that 1 lb. will turn into 2 lbs. real quick. Do some brisk walking today, without stopping for 'at least' 1 hour. Break it up into (2) 1/2 hour sessions if you need to. On average we will have eaten 4,500 calories during our Thanksgiving Day meal. That's 3,000 calories for the meal and 1,500 calories in snacks and drinks and 3,500 calories equals one pound of fat.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

When is the last time you cleaned your lamp shades? Chances are you only have a couple of lamps so this should not take you long. Lamp shades house an incredible amount of dust and today is just as Good as any to give your lamp shades a Good dusting.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Just because something is 'on sale' does not mean you have to buy it. Think about what you need before you make any purchases today. And just because something is 'on sale' does not mean you need to buy excessive gifts. Make intelligent shopping decisions before you throw away a days pay on something that you or someone else doesn't really need.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Do not take on more than you can rightly handle. There is nothing wrong with backing off, laying low or taking yourself out of the equation if something does not work for you. It's your Life and you can say, "Thanks, but no thanks" without having to a give a reason.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

If you are having a hard time getting in a couple of pieces of fruit everyday, then it might help to actually buy the fruit. Buy a pineapple, mango or other piece of fruit that is not part of your 'fruit normal'. I started eating mango's when I became curious how to cut one. There is a trick to it. Google it and then go buy a mango or other fruit that is out of your 'fruit normal'.

Activities of Daily Living - Today's Healthful Nutrient

Choose two (2) of the 'MIXED CAROTENOIDS' foods below
and incorporate them into your diet today.
