Activities of Daily Living

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

What Good do I do?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

There aren't enough words to tell you how important having enough sleep is to your health. You will eat less, have more energy, have lower blood pressure and you will live longer just to name a few things. Do your body Good and go to bed at a proper time.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Get out the tape measure and mark your height on the wall. Now take the same tape measure and wrap it around your waist. Your waist should be half or less than your height. If it is not, then get your body moving and lose those inches.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Pick up after yourself. Simple as that. Just pick up after yourself and most of your housework will be done before it even turns into work. Today's housework assignment is really just common sense housecleaning. Stop being lazy and pick up after yourself. You're not a child.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Financial stress is one of the worst stressors to health. It can cause one to smoke, drink, binge or over-indulge in food. It can cause depression thereby causing one to abandon exercise. Whatever you do, do not stop moving your body because that is a metaphor for a stagnation of energy (money).

Take on a little friendly competition with yourself to achieve your personal best. I constantly have numbers in my head that I'm trying to beat. Whether that is my website stats, the mileage on my exercise bike, how long I can hold 'the plank', etc., I'm always out to achieve my personal best.

Green tea is so healthy due to its heart-pumping and cancer-stopping properties. Green tea has less caffeine than Black tea but will still give you that alert feeling you may be seeking. Green tea is high in the plant flavonoids and is a wonderful antioxidant.
