Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

If your poop is hard and hurts when it is coming out, you are probably dehydrated. When the body is dehydrated, the first place it will look for water is the colon. As I always say, "You can't flush a toilet without water."

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Movement

You should be able to lift yourself out of a chair without holding on to the arms of the chair. The inability to lift yourself out of a chair without holding on speaks volumes of your long-term health. This means your quadriceps (thighs) and core (mid-section) are weak and if they are weak, your heart may need strengthening as well. Scary? You betcha'!

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

If you still have items from past relationships that hold bad memories, then it is probably time to get rid of them. Whether it is picture frames, pictures, clothes or furniture, it's bad Feng Shui to have possessions that hold negative energy. You are better off without it and it's only stuff. Get rid of it!

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Ego and temptation in no particular order is usually what gets people into financial trouble the most. Do not let your ego purchase champagne when you have a beer budget. Have your financial goal set and maintain your financial vision. Financial distractions will attempt to tempt you. Stay in your lane and hold your focus straight ahead.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Use small ZipLoc baggies and plastic containers to portion control your snacks. Stack 'em up in 100 calorie or 200 calorie portions. You can get a super inexpensive food scale at a discount store for less than $10. When I buy a large bag of mixed nuts, I break it down into 1/4 cup increments in tiny plastic containers because its too easy to grab a handful here and there.

DESCRIPTION: Bilberry contains compounds known as anthocyanosides, which are very potent antioxidants. It is also rich in bioflavonoids, manganese, phosphorus, iron and zinc. It contains many important phytochemicals including arbutin, which may benefit the urinary system. There is some research that indicates it can regenerate visual purple, which is necessary for healthy night vision because it strengthens the capillaries. The capillaries are small veins that surround the eyes, therefore the circulation around the eyes is improved. The anthocyanosides may also strengthen the capillaries in the retina, which may help slow macular degeneration.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Helps improve night vision, cataracts; recovery from strokes, ulcers; treating angina, diarrhea, glaucoma, menstrual cramps, urinary function and varicose veins. It is also helpful for Raynaud's Disease.
