Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Toe nail fungus aka onychomycosis infects the nail bed and causes the nail to thicken and discolor, possibly causing the loss of the nail. Vicks VapoRub has been effective at stopping the growth of fungal infection. Put on the 'rub', then a sock. It does not kill the fungus but it does inhibit growth, which can encourage healthy nail growth until the infection is trimmed away in its entirety.

Hula hooping is a fun way to exercise while watching TV. The best hula hoop is going to be one that is weighted rather than the lightweight version sold at a discount store. The weighted hoops cost more (buy at a Sporting Goods store) and will be well worth it. Until you get use to it, you may experience bruising and waist tenderness but again, it will be well worth it. No pain, no gain.

If you have an abundance of toiletries such as shampoos, conditioners, cleansers, deodorants and sprays that you are no longer using because they did not suit you for one reason for another, then gather them up and drop them off at a shelter near you. There is no reason why you should hoard these treasures if you are not going to use them. Put your money to Good use and give them to those less fortunate.

I cannot stress enough how much your self-worth relates to your finances. Over-inflated self-worth results in debt and want. Deflated self-worth results in lack and need. Self-worth not only impacts your finances but it speaks volumes about your health, hygiene and fitness. It will also reveal itself in your choice of relationships. OUCHY! Take the time to consider your value system so you can see how it manifests for you on the physical plane.

Work ethic is defined as a set of values based on the moral virtues of hard work and diligence. There is a belief in the moral benefit and importance of work and its inherent ability to strengthen character. For every person who lives by excuses and finger pointing, there is someone else who shows up to work no matter what their set of circumstances might be. Successful people show up no matter what.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Focus your minds eye on colorful foods. Carbs are not colorful, which is usually the first clue they are not healthy. Carbs are mostly colorless and will give you less color and cause a less colorful Life. If you want your Life to be colorful, full of interest, lively and exciting, then you must put some color into it. You are what you eat. Carbs are basically paper-mache in your gut that creates mucus.
