Activities of Daily Living
January 23rd

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

Is my natural response doubt and skepticism or confidence and expectation?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

When you need some time to think, walk around the house and wipe down everything that everyone in the house touches regularly. The refrigerator door handle. The bathroom door handle. The remote control(s). Light switches. Etc.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Do you have a workout buddy and if so, when is the last time you checked in with them? You don't have to workout together to have a workout buddy. When you commit together, then you are in-it together and hold each other accountable.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Whether it is handheld workout equipment or a load of children's toys, they need to be washed. Fill up the tub with hot soapy water and give them a Good soak. Use the shower to rinse them. I have even put bigger silk plants in the shower and given them a Good spray down. They can also sit in there and dry too.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

You are going to save massive amounts of money in the long run and in the short run when you put your healthcare first. Putting your health first will impact your expenditures in all areas when you think about it. Make a list of money savings when you put your health first.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

If it isn't working for you, then stop doing it. There is a huge difference between challenging ones self and working toward a goal, and continuing to do something that is clearly not working. If you run into a snag or slow down then maybe stop for a bit and collect your wits and emotions. Pushing when the energy is clearing urging you to stop would be counter-productive. So, if something isn't working for you, then STOP and collect yourself or stop doing it altogether. Either way, stop and re-collect yourself.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

I think it's healthy to obsess over food when it is done the right way. Having a healthy obsession over nutritional content will keep you from eating like an animal or eating with blinders. Here is a link to help you understand the nutritional label on your foods.

Activities of Daily Living - Today's Healthful Nutrient

Choose two (2) of the 'LYCOPENE' foods below
and incorporate them into your diet today.
Get creative!

DESCRIPTION: Lycopene is the red pigment, a carotene that makes tomatoes red. It is one of the most abundant carotenoids in the human body.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Enhances vision and a healthy prostate.

SOURCES: It is present in tomatoes, other red fruits and berries.
