Activities of Daily Living
February 26th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

What would it look like if others treated me the same as I treat them?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

For a super-quick facial scrub, mix one teaspoon of sugar with your soap or usual facial cleanser and poof, you will have exfoliating grains sloughing off dead skin cells. I do it about 1 - 2 times a week.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Butt exercise! Lie flat on your back, knees bent, feet at hip-distance apart with your arms at your sides. Slowly raise your pelvis up toward the ceiling to a point where your knees, hips, and shoulders are in one slanted line. Then squeeze your glutes (butt) while you hold the position for five seconds. Slowly return to the start position to complete one rep. Do three sets of 12-15.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Have you ever had paper stick to a wood surface? Do not scrape it with a knife. Just pour drip any salad oil on the paper and let it set for a while. Then start rubbing it off with a soft cloth.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Get sentimental with your cash. Find something in the serial number that you feel sentimental about and then put that cash into your secret stash. No matter what dollar amount the bill (cash) happens to be, find a sentimental connection and put it in your secret stash.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

When you build your own ballpark, then you can make your own rules. Until that time, you may have to work according to someone else's rules and that's where experience will serve you. Before I had my own practice, I practiced with another doctor and learned how 'not' to run a practice. (winky wink)

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

If food is too salty, add a bit of sugar. If food is too sweet, then add a bit of salt. If soup or stew is too salty, add potatoes and they should soak up the excess salt, then you can toss them out if you like. If a main dish is too sweet, instead of salt you can add a teaspoon of cider vinegar.

Activities of Daily Living - Today's Healthful Nutrient

Choose two (2) of the 'GLYCINE' foods below
and incorporate them into your diet today.
Get creative!

DESCRIPTION: Glycine is a non-essential amino acid that is used to make up glutathione. So it is a helper in making other non-essential amino acids. If too much of this amino acid taken, it can result in lethary and fatigue. Oh, those heavy meals do mean something!!

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Helps maintain the immune system. Aids in prostate health and bi-polar depression. Aids in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord).

FOOD SOURCES: Beans, dairy products, fish, and meat.
