Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Lack of sleep is 'one of the' single worst things you can do to yourself. Stop kidding yourself, you cannot be the best you can be if you cannot or simply will not give yourself enough rest. Lack of rest could mean you have taken on too much, you can't handle what you have or maybe it's just simple martyrdom. OWIE! Some things aren't important and some things are important. Proper sleep, rest and relaxation are in the important column.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Become more aware of your breathing today. You need to breathe to live and your lungs need the exercise. When we are under stress, which includes anger, doubt, fear or anxiety, we will hold our breath. When we hold our breath, then we tighten the anal sphincter, which can contribute to constipation. Go ahead, think of something stressful and notice how you stop breathing and tighten the sphincter. Haven't you seen the posts that simply say, "Breathe"? Today, think 'breathing'.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

When is the last time you rotated and flipped your mattress? Well today is as Good a day as any. To keep your mattress in Good shape, make certain that you rotate it and flip it once a quarter, which is 4 times per year.

Let's face it, no one asks a financially crippled person for financial advice but we can still take note and learn from them. Your job today is to take note of what 'not' to do. This does not mean you judge anyone because more than likely we have all been there. What you are looking for today is that reality check or should I say 'financial check' that keeps your feet on the ground and your financial goals in tact.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Clear storage containers are the easiest way to get organized and stay organized, which increases productivity. I use them because I do not like to spend my time looking for anything. I use small clear bins in the utility closet labeled -- lightbulbs, batteries, glue & tape, bug, insect & pest control, etc. This is also why I do not have a junk drawer. Pick up some small clear storage containers to clean up your act.

There is a very Good reason why chefs on TV pre-measure all their ingredients and put them into tiny little glass dishes. In this way they will not accidentally add ingredients twice. I purchased my little tiny glass bowls at the dollar store. You can also pick them up at any large discount chain store.
