When do I feel more superior than someone else that I seek to be honored and acknowledged more than him/her?
"There are a lot of people who are doing wonderful things, quietly, with no motive of greed, or hostility toward other people, or delusions of superiority."
Grace and humility, Grace and humility, Grace and humility.
For a more enriching experience, go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, in today's reading, while all of the apostles were jockeying to be the favorite and arguing who was the greatest, Jesus did something every profound. He took a child, who in those days was at the bottom rung of the social ladder, and put that child at His side. He elevated a little child who essentially had no rights or privileges, to the position of greatness. Back in those days, children were in-service to their parents and were really nothing more than household servants. All of the apostles wanted the 'guest of honor' position seated next to Jesus, but He chose a little child instead to make a strong point saying, "Whoever is least among you is great" because that person is humble, full of Grace and empty of themselves ready to receive God's Word. It is interesting too that the apostles were attempting to tattle on a believer for helping to heal someone, as if the apostles had the beat on believing and healing. Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for he that is not against you is for you." The apostles were at times so full of themselves and their physical closeness to Jesus that they could not see that the man casting out demons was a believer too. He was on their side! He wasn't against them, He was with them!
Father, this reminds me. There are times when I treat strangers with less attention and respect than I should. I know how judgmental I can be and I also know how unattractive it is when I behave in such a way or act as though I am someone superior. I offer no excuse. As I think about this lack of attention and respect toward strangers and those who assist me in my everyday Life, it has made me think more about how I treat those who are closest to me and those that I Love, including my friends and family. Help me to become the Loving and kind person that you made me to be and help me to see Your "I AM" presence in every person who I come in contact with. Please help me to be a more forgiving, tolerant and merciful. I do realize what I have 'not' done to the least of your brothers and sisters, I have also done to You. Please help me be more attentive toward humanity and to move through my Life with Grace and humility.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood and Most Holy Face, I thank You in advance for answering my prayer.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
46 And an argument arose among them as to which of them was the greatest.
47 But when Jesus perceived the thought of their hearts, he took a child and put him by His side,
48 and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for he who is least among you all is the one who is great."
49 John answered, "Master, we saw a man casting out demons in Your Name, and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us."
50 But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him; for he that is not against you is for you."
