Activities of Daily Living

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Great smelling hair can be more sexy and alluring than cologne or perfume on the body. Just spray your comb or hair brush with your favorite cologne or perfume and then it will be, all day long, making you more sexy and alluring than ever.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Glute Kick: Targets the butt, core and thighs. Lie on your back with left knee bent, right leg extended above right hip. Lift hips off floor. Pause, then lower hips, keeping right leg extended. Continue lifting and lowering hips for 30 seconds. Repeat on opposite side for another 30 seconds. Make it easier: Keep both feet on floor and pulse hips up and down.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

To clean silk flowers real quick, throw them in a brown paper bag with a cup of salt. Shake the bag and the dirt will fall right off. You can also use a can of compressed air for larger silk arrangements to blow the dirt right off. In the warmer months take the bigger arrangements outside and spray them with the hose.

How can you save money if you don't have money? First of all it starts with your mindset. Try using 'financial affirmations' to help get your mind straight so you can begin thinking more optimistically. What you focus on expands, so keep your mind expanding in the right direction.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Whatever you do, do it with someone who does it better than you. So if you want to play better chess or better golf, then play with someone better than you. If want to save more money, then take advice from someone who saves more than you. If you want to be a better cook, then share recipes or take advice from someone who cooks better than you. If you do something better than me, then believe me, I want to be your friend.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

If you are focused on losing weight for your New Year's Resolution, you must consider food prepping. Hummus is almost too easy and cheap to make and it's low calorie. Try my hummus recipe! Cut up cucumbers, celery, radishes and carrots to dip in the hummus. A lot of vegi's are so low in calorie that I never even count them as caloric food. Prep this snack to take with you or to enjoy when a refrigerator raid is on your mind.
