HO-SHOU-WU (Polygonum multiforum)

DESCRIPTION: Ho-Shou-Wu in China is comparable with that of Golden Seal in the U.S. and Chamomile in Germany. They are also comparable to Ginseng. It is a member of the Smartweed family, which includes Bistort, Buckwheat and Knotweed.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS: It has a toning effect on the kidneys, liver and endocrine glands. Improves overall health and stamina. Used for pre-mature graying of the hair, alopecia, backaches, joint pain and bruising.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS: Even though this herb is known as a liver tonic, there is some research that indicates adverse reactions to the liver.
