Activities of Daily Living
September 19th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

What does the path I'm on look like? Is it rocky? Thorny? Split? Narrow? Quicksand? Covered in rich soil?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

According to the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Academy of Periodontology, there is a link between the buildup of plaque in the mouth and the buildup of plaque in the arteries and heart, even though they are 2 completely different types of plaque. Both also cite studies indicating that factors like missing teeth and gum disease are as strong an indicator of heart disease as high cholesterol levels. All the more reason to maintain Good dental health.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

By increasing muscle strength and endurance and improving flexibility and posture, regular exercise helps to prevent back pain.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

If you cannot cope with the amount of housework that you have, then maybe you have too much stuff to maintain. Consider purging or moving into a space that you can better manage and reset your priorities.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Take responsibility for your self-worth and get all of your ducks in a row. This will begin with getting your contact information and proof of a stable Life in order with anyone who needs to know, which would be creditors, family, friends and government offices.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

If you can remember all the rules you learned in kindergarten, it will make you easier to get along with in your personal and professional Life. You must be able to play well with others both personally, professionally and socially.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Ask yourself if you are a creature of habit when it comes to your daily food intake. I am a creature of habit when it comes to popcorn because I eat a bowl of popcorn nearly every single day. Since this is the case, I do not allow that bowl of popcorn to be decorated or flavored with anything. It has to plain.
