Activities of Daily Living
December 27th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

What is the capability of one small child?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Diaper rash creme is perfect for smoothing out rough elbows and rough feet. You can use petroleum jelly too but just in case you don't like the feel of it, diaper rash creme will work fine too.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Windshield Wiper Exercise to work the belly, butt and thighs. Lie face up on the floor with your legs against a wall and the bottoms of your feet facing the ceiling. Slowly lower your left leg down the wall like a clock arm toward 9 o'clock, then return to the starting position. Repeat with right leg, sweeping toward 3 o'clock. Alternate legs completing your desired number of reps.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Using a can of compressed air to clean the computer keyboard is easy but if you don't want to spend the $4.00 - $6.00 on a can of compressed air, just use a Post-It Note™, Scotch™ tape or masking tape by sliding it in between the keys and it picks up dirt and dust real quick.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

If you are looking for financial ideas then go or seek them out from sources that are 'in the know'. I started my first business when I was 22 years old and have been working for myself since then. I was motivated because I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom (my daughter was 2 at the time) and I was single. My first idea came out of Entrepreneur magazine.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

It is said, "Diligence is the mother of Good luck." In other words, "The harder you work, the luckier you get."

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Baked chicken is one of those dishes that you use in other dishes like pasta, on a salad or on a sandwich. I bake a lot of chicken. Cut up a chicken or buy it already cut up. Lay the chicken on two foiled and oiled pans. I used olive oil. Sprinkle the chicken on both sides with a generic 'all spice' (or whatever you prefer). Bake at 350 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes. Now you have a food prepped for several dishes this week.
