Activities of Daily Living
August 12th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

Who or what do I depend on?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Save yourself some money on buying mouthwash. Mix 1 Tablespoon of baking soda in a tall glass of water. Just swish in your mouth for 1 minute and rinse.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Something is better than nothing when it comes to exercise. Flexibility and meditative exercise like stretching and yoga help prevent injury, enhance range of motion, reduce stiffness and limit aches and pains.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Sprinkle some baking soda across the bottom of the trash can before you put a new bag in to keep odors away. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet before you go to work and vacuum it up when you get home.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Choose to be financially brave! Set a financial example for your friends, family or neighbors. Be brave enough not to blow money on non-essentials or trivial possessions so you can have less bills and more cash.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Be brave enough to silence your phone when you need time to think or work. My work happens to be all about Good communication and I still have no problem putting my phone on silent or not answering at all when I have to get something else completed. And I certainly don't need to answer my phone, or stare at my phone, in the middle of lunch with a friend. That's what you call self-involved!

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Think of yourself as a 'food prepper'. Since you have to eat to stay healthy, then let your mind become obsessed with prepping to eat. It can become a crazy game that keeps your mind on food but in different healthy way. Use Pinterest for ideas or watching video's. I also have a section on this website for prepping.

Activities of Daily Living - Today's Healthful Nutrient

Choose two (2) of the 'Histidine' foods below
and incorporate them into your diet today.

DESCRIPTION: Histidine is a semi-essential amino acid.
