Father, today's reading below is a fresh and bold reminder of how easy it is to become attached to material possessions. We live in such a materially obsessed society that our gadgets and obsessions have taken the place of verbal communication and human touch. I could act as though this doesn't include me but I'm certain that it does on many levels. If I cannot connect with others in the seen world, how in the world can I connect with You in the unseen world? This causes me to pose the question, under what circumstances would it take for me to give up or give all that I have? Typically when someone gives up or gives all they have is when they are on their death bed and the only thing they have left is You. When a person is on their death bed they are literally stripped of everything, except You. Father, from this moment forward I will choose to be more conscious of my attachments and possessions giving my time, Love and energy to You first and detaching myself from those things that really are not important. An individual can only have so much in material possessions before those material possessions start possessing them. Thank you for this stark awareness and the inspiration for my change.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
1 When He looked up He saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury
2 and He noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins.
3 He said, "I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest;
4 for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood."
