Father, the reading below has many teachings, but the one that stood out for me today was how all of the parties involved, with the exception of Jesus, were trying to get someone else to do the dirty work for them. No one wanted to be responsible to make the decision or be responsible for the outcome. Even Peter would not step up and take responsibility for being a friend and disciple of Jesus. The level of cowardice and self-concern is blatant and it stands out more for me now than it ever did. It's not like I hadn't heard this story before and we all know the ending, but today, I can really see how everyone wanted the dirty work done, but no one wanted to do it. I wonder, when I decide what type of punishment or justice needs to go down, would I be able to make the decision or assume responsibility for the outcome? Can I handle the dirty work or would I tap someone else to do it? Either way, it makes me involved by either action, judgment, denial or agreement. Thank You for this teaching today and for Your Son, Jesus the Christ.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
John 18:33-37
33 Pilate entered the praetorium again and called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are you the King of the Jews?"
34 Jesus answered, "Do you say this of your own accord, or did others say it to you about Me?"
35 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed You over to me; what have You done?"
36 Jesus answered, "My kingship is not of this world; if My kingship were of this world, My servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but My kingship is not from the world."
37 Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the Truth. Every one who is of the Truth hears My voice."
