Father, sometimes the parables Jesus spoke go right over my head until I dig deep and research the message He was conveying. The scripture below not only reminds me of work ethic but also the requirements of duty and being obliged to serve in the capacity I choose. As a Christian and follower of Jesus, I am required to operate at a higher standard simply because the bar is set so high. I suppose if being a Christian were easy, then everyone would jump to do it but it's not easy. I admit, discipleship certainly has its challenges on a daily basis, but even still I am up for the challenge. I understand that I cannot make any higher claims on or about You more than anyone else simply because I am a follower. Choosing the path of discipleship requires a sense of duty without attachment. I cannot claim more attachment to You more than Your other children simply because I am a follower. I follow and serve because it is a privilege to serve from the depths of my heart, because I want to, because I choose to, because I can't help it and because I am obliged to do it through duty. Thank You for this awareness today Father.
Through Jesus Christ's Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face. ~Amen
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
Luke 17:7-10
[Jesus said to them . . . ]
7 "Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, 'Come here immediately and take your place at table'?
8 Would he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished'?
9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'"
