For a more enriching experience,
go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further
and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, I have thought about the day when I will return to You. In fact, I think about it all the time and wonder what is the first question You will ask of me. I'm thinking it might be somethign simple like, "My child, did you Love?" While I can honestly say that I do Love, I can honestly say that I do not Love all the time. I understand that any type of anger is not Love. Even if I would become angry at the person I Love, while in that anger state, it is not Love. In fact, it is anything but Love - it might be vindictiveness, frustration, resentment, jealousy or any number of anger feelings but still, it is not Love. I will readily admit that Loving You comes a lot easier than Loving those who may not deserve it. I also understand that those who deserve it the least are the ones who need it the most. When I think about Your Instruction to Love my neighbor as myself, it causes me to ponder the question, "You mean I have to Love that person 'as if' they were me and how I want to be Loved?" Thank You for this awareness today as I continually practice the gift of Love.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
Mark 12:28-34
28 One of the scribes, when he came forward and heard them disputing and saw how well He had answered them, asked Him, "Which is the first of all the commandments?"
29 Jesus replied, "The first is this: 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone!
30 You shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
31 The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
32 The scribe said to Him, "Well said, teacher. You are right in saying, 'He is One and there is no other than He.'
33 And 'to Love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to Love your neighbor as yourself' is worth more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
34 And when Jesus saw that the scribe answered with understanding, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to ask Him any more questions.
