Father, today's reading has caused me to think about the impact of Judas' actions when he sold out Jesus. It also caused me to ask myself when I have been a sell out to someone for gain, ambition, money, greed or popularity . . or just to flat-out even the score. It is interesting how Jesus stated that one of them will betray Him and they all basically answered with, "Who me? Surely it isn't me? Oh I would never do such a thing." The fact is, every one of them recognized that they could be the potential betrayer. They knew it in their heart they were capable of such a thing. The fact of the matter is, we are all capable of such things but whether we choose that option is our own free will. The last thing I want to admit is that I have done this to someone, but I have, even though I would rather point a finger at someone who did it to me. Still, I have done it and the last thing I ever want to do is sell out Jesus or not step up and defend His Good Name when someone badmouths Him or uses Your Name in vain. Father, I desire to be more than strong enough to stand faithful and devoted to You, in Your Son's Name, no matter what, and never choosing the option to sell out.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Matthew 26:14-25
14 Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests
15 and said, "What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?" They paid him thirty pieces of silver,
16 and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand Him over.
17 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples approached Jesus and said, "Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?"
18 He said, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The teacher says, 'My appointed time draws near; in your house I shall celebrate the Passover with my disciples.'"
19 The disciples then did as Jesus had ordered, and prepared the Passover.
20 When it was evening, He reclined at table with the Twelve.
21 And while they were eating, He said, "Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray Me."
22 Deeply distressed at this, they began to say to Him one after another, "Surely it is not I, Lord?"
23 He said in reply, "He who has dipped his hand into the dish with Me is the one who will betray Me.
24 The Son of Man indeed goes, as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had never been born."
25 Then Judas, His betrayer, said in reply, "Surely it is not I, Rabbi?" He answered, "You have said so."
