| MYTH VS. TRUTH Soy burger vs. beef burger |
MYTH:
Is a soy burger healthier than a beef burger?
TRUTH:
Actually folks, soy in any form you find it contains phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are plant estrogens. As we all know, estrogen is a female hormone. Even though having estrogen in our bodies is normal, having high amounts of the plant estrogen is not. I don't care what you hear folks, "high amounts" of phytoestrogens is not Good. There is a team of Australian researchers who found that men who had high soy diets actually had lower testosterone levels that those men who ate beef.
And while I'm bringing up beef for all its artery clogging capabilities, it is actually 'lean beef' that has the ability to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol while at the same time it helps increase the HDL (Good) cholesterol. Always remember HDL as "happy" cholesterol. There was a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition that supported this fact. Google 'lean beef lowering cholesterol' and you will see what I mean.
Certainly, too much of a Good thing, isn't! This goes for soy rich diets and beef rich diets. Too much milk isn't such a Good thing but I will reserve that for a whole other mythbusting day. Red wine is also Good for you but too much, isn't. Moderation folks, moderation including soy diets.
