Dear Dr. Standley: (Where can I buy Frankincense?)
Kuddos to you Dr. Standley. I didn't think anyone could cause me to understand God. I read your book as a desperate measure of hope and it actually worked! I always thought God-talk was a bunch of mumbo-jumbo.
I had to write and tell you that through reading your book, I now know God is as "cool" as you know He IS.
And by the way, in your book you said that you found in Leviticus 2:2 that frankincense was "of a sweet savour unto the Lord." Well I'm going to start burning frankincense too, just like you; only where do I find it?

Dear Mumbo Jumbo No More:
Thank you very much for such a nice e-mail. I'm very much a ritual kind of person (it could be because of my Native American ancestry.)
I get my frankincense (and also myrrh) at the Catholic Supply Store in St. Louis (314.351.0277). You can probably order it from their website at www.catholicsupply.com You might also find it wherever you'd buy pure incense. Please ask for the round "bisquits" or "charcoal" that you'd use to burn the frankincense on. I use one of those long lighters to light the bisquit (charcoal) and then when the coal is hot, I put about a 1/4 teaspoon of incense on it and then pray my heart out.
Make sure you ask how to burn it because those bisquits get hot enough to burn through anything. You'll need a sturdy incense burner. I go as far as laying my incense burner on a stack of 3 green marble coasters that then sit on a gold plate. I got the gold plate and green marble coasters at Pier One.
Why "3 green marble" coasters? There's always a method to my madness. Three because it displays reverence to the Holy Trinity. Green because it's an abundant color and marble because it's grounding, as in coming from the earth. And the gold plate because it represents when the three wise men brought frankincense, myrrh and gold to the Infant Baby Jesus.
I try to make a big deal out of burning incense during my prayers and meditation. Especially since God Loves the smell of it.
