Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.
Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.
Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

What unattractive thing do I do that I need to admit and then change or transform?
Acknowledge foods that can cause you to smell bad. Curries, chilies, garlic, onions and cruciferous vegetables (such as broccoli and cabbage) and even some types of cheese can cause body odor because they contain volatile organic aromatic compounds. Too much red meat can also cause body odor. Research indicates that men who eat less red meat than other men were considered better smelling than those who ate it regularly.

One Leg Stand to Increase Balance: Start by standing facing the wall with your arms outstretched and your fingertips touching the wall. Lift your left leg, keep your hips level and keep a slight bend in the opposite leg. Gently place your foot back on the floor. Hold the lift for 5 - 10 seconds and perform 10 on each side. When balance improves it will be no longer necessaary to use the wall.

I call housework a 'moving meditation', even if it is just doing the laundry or dishes. Keeping all miscellaneous sounds off, do your housework with the intention of meditating and letting your mind wander. You might even keep a notepad handy to write down any ingenious ideas that come to you. Do not force any thoughts. If any negative thoughts come to your mind, then simply change the channel in your mind.

Have a financial plan. Typically the lack of money is due to the lack of a plan. If you have no financial plan or self-imposed financial limits then you can count on you looking for money instead of money looking for you.

One thing that I refuse to make time for is 'the e-mail volley'. E-mailing back and forth rather than having a real conversation takes too much time and more often than not, the tone is lost in translation and someone invariably gets their feelings hurt. I feel the same way about texting. If you want to be more productive, have a real conversation and drop the e-mail and texting volleys.

Be brave and have an experiment with various milks to see which one feels better on your body. You might feel better drinking soy milk, almond, cashew, lactose-free, 2 percent, whole, skim or goat milk. My body is not lactose intolerant but I do like the taste of lactose-free milk and how it feels in my body. My other half (fiance) enjoys almond or cashew milk. It just goes to show, what's Good for the goose (female) is not always Good for the gander (male). LOL! |
