For a more enriching experience,
go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further
and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, today's reading is a gentle reminder of the rules You laid out for us. They are very simple . . ask, seek and knock. Further, we are to come to You first for whatever we want or need. The reading below tells us that if we, as unruly individuals, who do wrong and unkind things to each other all of the time, would not even give our own child something evil in the place of something Good, why would we even think for a nano-second that You would give us less than we would want to give our own children? It is unthinkable that any Good father would give their child anything harmful or do anything harmful to their child. All we have to do is come to You but instead we have turned to anything and everyone but You. And when we do come to You, often times there is a lack of Faith. Coming to You should be more than pulling on an imaginary thread from the sky and hoping You are out there, ready to drop a signed check into our lap. It is about truly coming to You and trusting that You really are out there and that all You want to do is give to us what we want and need, just as we desire to give to our own children.
If I am the center of my world, who am I praying to? If I am in control, then who is above me? You must be the center of my world. I MUST put You in control of me.
I now understand the motivation behind the words, "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you." Just as I would do unto others, so would You do unto me. It is only fair. Father, thank You for this teachable moment and showing me that I can be better and do better to those I know and to those I do not know.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread,
10 or a snake when he asks for a fish?
11 If you then, who are wicked, know how to give Good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give Good things to those who ask Him.
12 "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets."
