What is it that connects me to a diverse group of people where we share a common bond, friendship, purpose, belief or service?
"Diversity: the art of thinking independently together."
'Diversity of thought' opens the door to adventure, experience, knowledge, possibility and opportunity.
For a more enriching experience, go down on your knees to pray or take it one step further and prostrate yourself (lay face down) on the floor while praying.
Father, today's reading below reminds me of just how diverse Jesus was when looking at the group of people that surrounded and supported His mission. Not only was He surround by twelve men of diverse character and thought, He was supported by several women who supported Him through their own resources (money). Jesus traveled quite a bit and was constantly on the move. He was constantly surrounded and supported by a band of women and a group of men of different types. Some of the women were known as public sinners and others were known for their wealth in prominent families. There was Mary Magdalene whom He healed of seven demons, Martha who was the sister of Lazarus, Joanna who was the wife of the king's chief financial officer, Mary His Mother, Susanna, Mary of Clophas and others. Jesus was the perfect example of what diversity looks like. As a whole, it was their common belief and Faith in His mission that brought this diverse group of individuals together. Everyone had their input, role and character and Jesus knew this. There was a place and reason for all them to be present alongside Him. The group didn't have to agree on everything because after all, in a group setting there are different personalities and temperaments, but one thing they all did agree on, was Him.
This is such a cool reading today because it reminds me that embracing diversity opens the door to everything else, while embracing sameness closes doors. Jesus was not only a social reformer, He was a non-conformist and a change-agent. There was a new Man in town and things would never be the same after His footprint. Every single one of us have a role to play in Your big picture just as this group of individuals did. Basically Jesus' apostles and disciples were 'fan flamers,' not in the sense they were a fan of His (but yeah, they were that too) but in the sense that they were people who would 'fan the flames' of His Word, which would help to keep His Word burning today, over 2,000 years later. That's mind-blowing to think about Jesus' impact on the entire world. I cannot imagine a world with His imprint and footprint. It's just so cool to think about how diverse He really was and what a rebel and non-conformist too! He did not back away, He did not shrink back, He did not side-step and He did not flinch when He was unaccepted. He kept going.. Oh I'm in Love with Your Son! What a Man! I'm in Father, I am IN! I too consider myself one of Your disciples and I will be supportive of Your Word. I will not back away. I will not shrink back. I will not side-step. And I will not flinch at the mention of Your Work, Your Word or Your Name. I'm IN!
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood and Most Holy Face. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke
1 Afterward He journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom of God. Accompanying Him were the Twelve
2 and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
3 Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.
