Father, the blind beggar Bartimae'us in the reading below was a man who was not about to let an opportunity pass him by, especially a once in a Lifetime opportunity. He knew who Jesus was and what He could do for him. When Jesus and the crowd walked by Bartimae'us, he was able to yell above the crowd in order to get Jesus' attention. Jesus was pretty much known for doing two things at once, so teaching and healing in the same moment were very common for Him. Bartimae'us knew Jesus could do anything and was the one person that could help him "receive his sight". I find it double-interesting that Bartimae'us used the word "receive" instead of the word "have". As Jesus walked by, Bartimae'us was not about to let this opportunity pass him by. Instead of dreaming, waiting, wondering or thinking about what it would be like to be healed by Jesus, Bartimae'us seized the moment and received his opportunity. Bartimae'us showed Jesus his persistant Faith and in return Bartimae'us received his sight. Thank You Father for this wonderful example of persistant Faith and seizing opportunity, especially a once in a Lifetime opportunity.
Through Jesus Christ's Most Precious Blood, Most Sacred Name and Most Holy Face, I thank You for this awareness. Amen~
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
46 And they came to Jericho; and as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, Bartimae'us, a blind beggar, the son of Timae'us, was sitting by the roadside.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
49 And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." And they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take heart; rise, He is calling you."
50 And throwing off his mantle he sprang up and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus said to him, "What do you want Me to do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Master, let me receive my sight."
52 And Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Him on the way.
