PRINTS BY CHEROKEE ARTIST DARRIN BARK

DARRIN BARK is married to my cousin Dusti (nee Bradley) who is my Aunt Jackie's daughter. Aunt Jackie is my mom's youngest sister. Darrin is half Cherokee and half Comanche. He is a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) and lives in Cherokee, North Carolina where the rest of my family lives. Darrin is a nationally recognized artist who has received numerous accolades, including the North Carolina Congressional Art Award. Darrin is also a potter creating all his pieces by hand and not on a potter's wheel.

Maggie Wachacha was a Beloved Woman. A Beloved Woman is a Cherokee woman who is extremely influential in tribal affairs, a woman who speaks in council meetings and communicates with other tribes and is considered a warrior woman. This is the highest that a Cherokee woman can aspire to become. Darrin Bark's original portrait of Maggie Wachacha (see below) was displayed at the White House for a period of time, which now hangs in he and Dusti's home.
