Audio'Siyo or Osiyo [Hello in Cherokee]

This morning's Musical DLG ™  (Musical Download from God ™ ) was "What You Give" by Tesla. It's no surprise that God always speaks to me in the language, tone and style that I can relate to and when it come to music, it's rock n' roll and preferably heavy metal or at least a strong influence. This particular song by Tesla doesn't have a super hard metal sound (okay to some people it might) and it's actually one of their softer sounds (ballads). To me, metal bands always put out the best ballads anyway. I think it's because their passion is so bold, intense and loud. I'm a loud, bold and intense individual so it makes sense that my Musical DLGs ™  would have so much drama, power and force.

Interesting, I always hear this song while riding in the car with 'The Scorpion King' but this morning it served as my alarm clock. This song is obviously a human Love ballad, but for me, I go straight into a spiritual Love ballad. My connection to this song is straight-up and hands-down spiritual. It takes me all the way to God from the first line in the song . . to the second line . . to the third line . . to the fourth line . . I'm tellin' you folks, that's the way I roll. Even in the second paragraph (lyrics below) where it says, "I feel so lonely, yet I know I'm not the only one to ever feel this way" because I feel so personally connected to God that I feel like I'm alone (really alone) sitting here, doing my thing, getting my work accomplished just so I can get back to where I belong, with Him. It's crazy cool. Dang I Love this song and it chokes me up! I think it's a super fantastic meditation song but that's just me. And check out the lyrics It's not whatcha got, it's a-what You give. I don't read or sing this as it's not what I got but what I give, I read it more along the lines of it's not what God has but what He gives. This song is so flipped in a spiritual way for me it's unbelievable. Maybe since God digs on being acknowledged so much that He gave me this Musical DLG ™  this morning to help you see things my way or His way cause it ain't what it's not, but what it is. Enjoy!~

What You Give
by Tesla
(Lyrics are below the video)

Who's the one that makes you happy?
Or maybe, who's the one always on your mind?
And who is the reason you're livin' for?
Who's the reason for your smile?

I feel so lonely, yet I know I'm not the only one
To ever feel this way
I love ya so much that I think I'm goin' insane
I'm goin' crazy, outta my head
Goin' crazy, outta my head
Can't think about nothin' but your Good, Good Love,
And what You give

Now, ev'ry one needs somebody
And you know, ev'rybody needs someone
Well, and a-yes it's true!
Ev'rybody needs a special kind of Love,
And you're the only one I'm thinkin' of
You mean the world to me
You are my Only!

I feel so lonely, yet I know I'm not the only one
To carry on this way
I Love ya so much I lose track-a time,
Lose track of the days
I'm goin' outta my head,
Goin' crazy, outta my head
Can't think about a-nothin' but your Good, Good Love,
And what You give

It's not whatcha got, it's a-what you give
It ain't the life you choose, it's the life you live
It's not what you got, only what you give, only what you give,
It's not whatcha got, a-but the life you live
It's the life you live
[Spoken:] Play it pretty for the world

You're the one that makes me happy. Oh yeah baby
And you're the one always on my mind. And a-yes it's true
You are my reason, my one and only that I've been livin' for
Why can't forever be forever and nothin' more. (To Chorus)

It's not whatcha got, it's a-what you give
It ain't the life you choose, it's the life you live
No, no, no, no, no!
It's not whatcha got, it's a-what you give
And it ain't what it's not, but a-what it is!

Only what you give, only what you give. It's only what you give
It's not whatcha got, a-but a-what you give
It's not whatcha got, it's a-what you give. A-what you give woman
It ain't the life you choose, it's the life you live
It's only what you give, only what you give, only what you give,
It's not whatcha got, but a-what you give
It's only what you give. Only what you give. Yeah, yeah, yeah

Only what you give. Only what you give
Only what you give, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Is that good enough for the girls we run around with?
I do believe so. Ooh, ooh, uh-huh
Only what you give, what you give. Only what you give
Only what you give

This morning's Musical DLG ™  (Musical Download from God ™ ) was "Patience" by Guns n' Roses, one of my all time favorite bands. In fact, my little brother Jerry and I do a killer imitation of this video (below), especially when we dance like Axl Rose and belt out the screamin' high notes near the end and the ever so quiet "Ahhhh" at the very close. Immediately when I was awaken by the words, "1..2...1,2,3,4" I knew exactly which song it was and what it meant for me. The song had nothing to do with the lyrics for me per se except for the theme of the song . . . patience.

When it comes to major situations in Life, I would go far enough to say that I am a fairly patient and calm person. Especially if there is nothing I can do and things are going to play out the way they will. All I can do is increase my presence (show up) and increase my presence (awareness). Quite honestly, it's the little things in Life that send me over the rails. (winky wink) I'm certainly not above being high strung every now and then. In fact, several years ago I resolved that I would no longer pray for patience because I kept being given circumstances that would make me more patient. Then finally I got it. Don't pray for patience you knucklehead because God is giving you what you asked for . . claim that you are patient! Voluntarily choose to be patient! Think about it, how else would God give me patience except through circumstances to make me that way. Enough of that business, now I claim patience as a wonderful character trait. Still, I woke up this morning hearing the Musical DLG ™  "Patience" and I have to respect the message because it was real. It happened. DANG! Or maybe I should say BANG! since it was sent to me through the musical vibes of Guns n' Roses. Enjoy!~

PATIENCE
by Guns n' Roses
(Lyrics are below the video)

(1..2...1,2,3,4)
Shed a tear 'cause I'm missing you
I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt you're in my heart now
Said woman take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said sugar make it slow
And we'll come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
(inhale) Patience...
Ooh, oh, yeah

Sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now, I'll wait dear
Sometimes, I get so tense
But I can't speed up the time
But you know, love,
there's one more thing to consider
Said woman take it slow
Things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said sugar take the time
'Cause the lights are shining bright
You and I've got what it takes to make it
We won't fake it, Oh never break it
'Cause I can't take it

...little patience, mm yeah, ooh yeah,
Need a little patience, yeah
Just a little patience, yeah
Some more pati... (ence, yeah)
I've been walking these streets at night
Just trying to get it right (Need some patience, yeah)
It's hard to see with so many around
You know I don't like being stuck in a crowd
(Could use some patience, yeah)
And the streets don't change but maybe the name
I ain't got time for the game
'Cause I need you (Patience, yeah)
Yeah, yeah well I need you
Oh, I need you (Take some patience)
Whoa, I need you (Just a little patience is all we need)
Ooh, this ti- me....
Ahhhhhhhh

This morning's Musical DLG ™  (Musical Download from God ™ ) was by Terence Trent Darby called, "Sign Your Name" and immediately took me back to the Spring of 1988. The song actually came out in 1987. You may have heard this song re-introduced by Michael Bolton or Sheryl Crow but no one and I mean no one can sing this song like Terence Trent Darby. And the music is just hypnotic! It also has violins in it and I Love to hear violins in all musical pieces. Gosh, I have always Loved Terence Trent Darby's voice and always thought he was completely under-rated as an artist. This song would just take me away and I would just swirl and swoon in emotion. It's one of those songs you can dance to in your chair and drop a tear or two.

Interestingly enough, when you listen to the lyrics, the song didn't take me back to the person I was involved with at that time as you might think. Quite honestly, I had to think about who that person actually was back then. The song took me back to a time in my Life when I was literally distorted in Love. That time in my Life was anything but Love and I voluntarily chose it and agreed to be in it. All I could do was smirk to myself, grin and shake my head. Geez, the things we put ourselves through to learn something higher. Suddenly, I could see the chain reaction from that point forward and how I ended up where I am right now. That miserable Love lesson had paid off in a really big way because eventually I had gained some wisdom, embraced some Good sense and grew in maturity. I remember the distortion of Love (that feeling) more than I remember the person. It's probably because now Love begins within me and I'm able to put my foot down if something doesn't feel Good or feel right for that matter. I still really Love this song and this Musical DLG ™  serves as a gentle reminder of how far I've come. Now I can listen to it and enjoy it with a healthier and happier spirit. What a great way to start the day! Enjoy!~

SIGN YOUR NAME
by Terence Trent Darby
(Lyrics are below the video)

Fortunately you have got
Someone who relies on you
We started out as friends
But the thought of you just caves me in
The symptoms are so deep
It is much too late to turn away
We started out as friends

Sign your name
Across my heart
I want you to be my baby
Sign your name
Across my heart
I want you to be my lady

Time I'm sure will bring
Disappointments in so many things
It seems to be the way
When you're gambling cards on Love you play
I'd rather be in Hell with you baby
Than in cool Heaven
It seems to be the way

Sign your name
Across my heart
I want you to be my baby
Sign your name
Across my heart
I want you to be my lady

Birds never look into the sun
Before the day is gone
But oh the light shines brighter
On a peaceful day
Stranger blue leave us alone
We don't want to deal with you
We'll shed our stains showering
In the room that makes the rain

All alone with you
Makes the butterflies in me arise
Slowly we make love
And the Earth rotates
To our dictates
Slowly we make love

Sign your name
Across my heart
I want you to be my baby
Sign your name
Across my heart
I want you to be my lady

This morning's Musical DLG ™  (Musical Download from God ™ ) was by The Rembrandts called, "Just The Way It Is." The Rembrandts are best known for their song, "I'll Be There For You," which was the theme song to the TV sitcom "Friends." It immediately took me back 21 years ago to riding in the car with my daughter Karmen and we would belt out this song over and over and over again. Gosh she was only 9 years old at the time. In fact, when stuff happened that didn't feel so great, we would say to each other, "That's just the way it is baby." It was our way of dealing with something if there was really nothing we could do about it. In other words, it was like saying, "Okay, if this is the way it is and what we have, then let's roll with it." This was long before you would hear the now popular cliche', "It is what it is."

I am person very aware that there is an ending. It doesn't matter what it is in this physical Life we live, it will end. It is a fact. Even playing yourself in a game of solitaire, it will end. Somehow, someway, somewhere, sometime, all things will end. That sounds rather bleak, depressing and melancholy and I don't mean for it to come across that way but the fact remains, whatever it is, will end and the more we are aware of it, maybe we would be more serious about the fun, the Love and the time. That's just the way it is baby. And if that's just the way it is, then all the more reason to live in and enjoy the moment while we are right smack dab in the middle of it. So why not live loudly, boldly, a little crazily and joyfully. Why the heck not? Why not enjoy myself and cram it all in? When I hear this song, it actually gives me a gusto feeling rather than a sad drained feeling. I guess with anything else, it's how we choose to look at it. I choose to live fully and happily, never allowing myself to take for granted the people and experiences I enjoy so much. Okay, sometimes my humanness does cause me to take it for granted but then maybe that's why I needed to hear this song this morning and also share it with you. Enjoy!~

JUST THE WAY IT IS
by The Rembrandts
(Lyrics are below the video)

Do you remember once upon a time - when you were mine?
The stars above were bright and new,
I pulled them down for you
Just when I fell in love again,
You said that all good things must end!

BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY (WHOAH WHOAH)
BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY

I've never had a hand for solitaire - it's so unfair
That I should have my chance and lose
I feel like I've been used to help you through another night
You spelled it out in black and white

BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY (WHOAH WHOAH)
BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY

The tides that once had carried you away - they bring you back today
The time has washed away my pain
I find that things have changed and disappeared without a trace
You can't get back what you've erased
And I say

BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY - THAT’S JUST THE WAY IT IS
BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY - OH THAT’S JUST THE WAY IT IS
BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY
BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY
BABY, THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS BABY - JUST THE WAY IT IS

This morning's Musical DLG ™  (Musical Download from God ™ ) is one of a handful of songs that when I hear it causes my Life to flash before my eyes. It happens every time I hear this song. It's a rather melancholy song and even though it doesn't make me feel melancholy, it does cause me to contemplate the record of my journey. Maybe a record of the journey is what Robert Plant had in mind when he titled and wrote the song, "Big Log" because nowhere in this song will you hear the words "big log." What else could it mean besides all of the physical, spiritual and emotional miles I've logged so far? But then again, I'm a person who contemplates the other side of Life quite often and have always been fascinated with my own path of existence.

As the intro became my alarm at 3:45 AM, my Life began to flash starting at the age of three, which led me to where I am this very minute. It's fascinating how I ended up right here from there. And there goes the lump in my throat and the tear down my cheek. It's a sweet happy contented teardrop. Ah, the big log. Quite honestly, I probably contemplate the record of my journey at least a couple of times a day. I've just always been very aware of it. Notice in the video below Robert Plant actually creates Jacob's Ladder (the stairway to heaven) out of string. The metaphor Robert uses in the video below is obviously about Love, lost Love, unrequited Love or longing for Love but as with any song, you can freely insert your own passions and interpretation. My interpretation of 'big log' just happens to be about my experiential journey. Maybe if you close your eyes and listen to the song, without being influenced by the video below, you will have a different intepretation as well or scroll past the video and read along as the song plays. And just in case Robert Plant looks familiar to you in the video below, yes, he is also the lead singer of Led Zeppelin (who sang Stairway to Heaven). Enjoy!~

BIG LOG
by Robert Plant
(Lyrics are below the video)

My love is in league
with the freeway
Its passion will ride
as the cities fly by
And the taillights dissolve
in the coming of night
And the questions in
thousands take flight

My love is the miles
and the waiting
The eyes that just stare
and a glance at the clock
And the secret that burns
and the pain that won't stop
And it's fuel is the years

Leading me on (leading me)
leading me down the road
Driving me on (driving me on)
driving me down the road

My love is exceeding the limit
Red-eyed and fevered
with the hum of the miles
Distance and longing
my thoughts do collide
Should I rest for a
while on the side?

Your love is cradled in knowing
eyes in the mirror
still expecting they'll come
Sensing too well
when the journey is done
there is no turning back, no
There is no turning back
on the road

My love is in league
with the freeway
Oh, the freeway
and the coming of night time
My love, my love
is in league with the freeway

THE DEFINITION OF PAIN

Audio'Siyo or Osiyo [Hello in Cherokee]

Read the last Daily Message titled, GAMES PEOPLE PLAY

If you've been coming to my site long enough then you know that I wake up every single morning with a song playing in my head. Just like clockwork every single morning, typically between 4:00 AM - 4:30 AM, there goes my internal alarm. I refer to these internal musical alarms as a Musical DLG ™  (Musical Download from God ™ ). It's been months since I've written about my DLGs ™  and for some reason my fingers and my time aligned perfectly this morning and I was ready to rumble. Yeah, just like that.

This morning's Musical DLG ™  called, "Precious Pain" by Melissa Etheridge caught me a little off guard because I don't see myself as a person who is in pain on any level, spiritually, physically, emotionally or chemically. I have come to understand that when I receive a DLG ™  there is a reason for it and I just have to roll with it and allow it to unfold. I went ahead with the start of my day listening to voice mails and reading my private Facebook messages and there it was . . a theme of pain. It's important to remember that the definition of pain is, "An emotional response to a stimulus." Now I'm not minimizing anyone's pain, I'm just saying that pain is an emotional response to a stimulus. While certainly pain often times involves a physical component, pain still remains an emotional response to a stimulus. Even though the more familiar stimulus may be physical injury, pain is also stimulated by grief, anger, betrayal, infidelity, depression or a host of other experiential stimuli.

As a doctor I certainly understand pain on a physiologic and anatomic level but I knew this Musical DLG ™  wasn't necessarily about physical injury as much as it was about emotional injury. It immediately reminded me of the single biggest lesson I learned about pain, which was taught by my Mama Bear one day while playing Bingo. As we sat down to play, a woman two chairs away became belligerant. It seemed the woman had claimed her personal space as not only the chair she was sitting in but also the two chairs on either side of her. When Mom sat down she had left a chair between herself and the woman but that wasn't enough. The woman's lucky space included the two chairs on both sides of her, not just one. The woman was so angry that she actually became vicious and verbally threatened my mom. Mama Bear held her ground and ignored the woman's insults. As I leaned forward to say something to the woman, Mama Bear ever so gently looked at me above her reading glasses and said, "It's okay Loretta. It's okay, I'm not the one in pain." With that, the woman froze in her gaze and not three minutes later she was apologizing to my mom for her behavior.

PRECIOUS PAIN
by Melissa Etheridge
(Lyrics below the video screen)

Everybody's got a hunger
No matter where they are
Everybody clings to their own fear
Everybody hides some scar

Precious pain
Empty and cold but it keeps me alive
I gave it my soul so that I could survive
Keeping me safe in these chains
Precious pain

Everybody's got a reason
To abandon their plan
How can I think of tomorrow
With my sorrow in hand

Precious pain
Empty and cold but it keeps me alive
I gave it my soul so that I could survive
Keeping me safe in these chains
Precious pain

Each road that I walk down
Reminds me of you
This whole town is haunted
There'll never be anything new

Precious pain
Empty and cold but it keeps me alive
I gave it my soul so that I could survive
Keeping me safe in these chains
Precious pain
