Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Healthy feet begin with Good hygiene, which means they need to be clean and dry. Fungus seek moisture, so depriving fungal organisms of any wetness will make it more difficult for them to thrive. Make certain you dry each toe and in between them. Excess moisture between the toes is the perfect environment for fungal infections.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

Wall Squats: I do these while talking on the phone. Press your back and butt firmly up against the wall, then slowly start to move into a seated position. You should look like you are sitting in an invisible chair. Your knees and thighs should be lined up creating a 90-degree angle by the hips. Keep your shoulders and arms relaxed and focus on maintaining a seated position. If you are doing the fitness move correctly, your thighs should start to burn.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

After you brush your teeth or shave, rinse the sink with warm water sending all of the toothpaste droppings and hairs down the sink. Too bad you can't turn those toothpaste droppings into fresh breath mints. Ewwwww! Rinse out the sink! I keep a roll of paper towels on the sink on a beautiful glass flowered plate to dry the sink and hands. In this way the hand towel is not used over and over again thereby carrying germs and not cleanliness. I avoid hand towels in anyone's bathroom.

Bartering is a lost opportunity but still there are a lot of people who will gladly trade your services or goods for theirs instead of money, especially if you are friends or at least know each other. Get into the habit of offering to barter, and you will find indeed save a lot of money. No matter what it is, offer to barter first.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Instantaneous results rarely ever last. The same can be said for instantaneous success, but then is it success? Be patient with yourself and the process that it takes to get you to the place that you desire to be. Some successes take more time simply because it may take you some much needed time to get, the get. True success requires much learning and commitment. How else will you acquire what needs to be learned if you are not commmitted to the process? Be patient and even more, eager to learn.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Some foods really are superfoods simply because of their wonderful nutritional content. Take it upon yourself to research - eggs, sweet potatoes, kale, quinoa, avocado's, blueberries, pomegranate's, chia seeds. There are more but this is a great starting place. Hey, don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Just investigate them and try them.
