Activities of Daily Living
November 25th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

If everything happens for a reason, then why don't I pay closer attention?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Good health begins with Good hygiene. For instance, not flossing or brushing your teeth will surely stimulate a dental visit. Washing, brushing, hydrating, moisturizing, exercising and eating properly are all part of maintaining excellent health. Do your part by doing more than the bare minimum.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Movement

Superman Exercise works your thighs, abs and lower back. Stretch yourself face down on the ground by keeping your hands and legs straight, as if you were flying like Superman. Lift your chest, arms and thighs of the ground at the same time by balancing yourself on your stomach. Try to keep yourself as straight as possible. Repeat lifting your thighs and chest off the ground for 30 seconds. This exercise tones your stomach.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Chances are you have too many clothes and you do not wear half of them anyway. Make it a real Thanksgiving by gathering up what you do not wear and giving it away to someone less fortunate. In this way you can truly be thankful for having such abundance in your Life and you have cleaned your closet too. It'll only take a few minutes.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Having financial goals is part of being a financially responsible adult. If you do not have financial goals, you are probably setting yourself up for living paycheck to paycheck, always needing and feeling lack. Do not kid yourself. Either you can afford it, or you can not. Simple as that. Write down your financial goals today.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

You must accept that Good results require hard work and patience. Great results do not happen overnight, although they can. Successful people do not give up, nor do they give half an effort. Successful people do not know how to stop, give up or meander. Successful people are relentless, obsessed and tenacious. Successful people work their ass off.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Raw carrots, apples and celery are known as 'detergent' foods that can keep your teeth scrubbed in a pinch. Keep some apples or sliced up carrots and celery handy for that pinch, in a pinch.
