Activities of Daily Living

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Hygiene is defined as the conditions and practices of promoting and preserving Good health. This is not just about cleanliness because relationships can affect your health too. Make certain you are clear on your boundaries and who you allow to infiltrate your spirit.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Movement

Engage in an exercise or movement that you truly enjoy and you will likely do it more often. I absolutely Love being outdoors hiking or riding my bicycle. Lifting weights or just going for a walk does not raise my flag. I do enjoy the rowing machine at the gym, my exercise bike at home or going to hot yoga. Make certain you Love your exercise and it will Love you right back.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

Did you know you can clean your toilet with two Alka-Seltzer tablets? Just drop them in the toilet and in about 20 minutes give it a quick scrub with the toilet brush and its clean. You can also use two Alka-Seltzer tablets to clean your jewelry, the bottom of vases, drains, pitchers, etc.

Check your credit report and if you have any credit inquiries on there that are over 2 years old, you can just call the credit reporting agencies (Transunion, Experian and Equifax) and ask them to be removed. Credit inquiries can make your credit score go down. You want the least amount of inquiries. So if you purchased a car 2 years ago and were shopping for credit, those inquiries are now ready to come off your credit report.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Too tight of a schedule to accomplish my goals is not only too restrictive, it's too boring for this Gemini. I pretty much do everything using the number 3. Since God likes the number 3, then I like that number too. Whatever I need to do, my mind says, "Do it 3 seconds, 3 minutes, 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks or 3 months." Three seconds or three minutes basically means to take action right now, not in a little while. The size of the goal depends on the amount of '3' I will give it.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

I use green onions (scallions) a lot, so instead of buying them week after week, I just regrow them in the kitchen. Did you know you can regrow celery too? I do this just because I can. Just put the base of either (celery or scallions) into a glass jar with a little water and watch them grow. The scallions grow like weeds and I never run out. It's a no-brainer.
