Activities of Daily Living
March 19th

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

How are my sleeping dreams, daydreams and intuition related?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Keep your nose clean! Your sense of smell (olfaction) helps you identify food, fragrances, pheromones and danger. Your sense of smell helps you 'sniff out' things both literally and figuratively. Keep your awareness sharp by keeping your nose clean.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Movement

Ligaments attach bone to bone. Tendons attach muscles to bone. A muscle will gradually become tendinous at its origin and insertion in order to attach itself to a bone. A tendon has to cross a joint in order to move the bones. Hold up your index finger and watch yourself move it. You cannot even reach for something without muscle movement enabling the tendon. Give your bones some Love by stretching your tendons and strengthening your muscles.

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

An easy way to clean your blinds is taking them down and putting them in the bathtub. You can let them soak in warm sudsy water and a cup of vinegar for just an hour and that should get quite a bit of dust off of them. Then you can just drain the tub and let them shower rinse them.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Albert Einstein said, "You can't fix a problem with the same energy that created it." If you are having money issues, creating more debt by spending or borrowing will not fix it. In the early very lean years building this website, I slowly sold off my possessions including my jewelry, furniture (and rugs) to support myself. Was it worth it? Oh you betcha! I did what I had to do in order to get to the place that I wanted to be. It was all replaceable.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

There is no successful person on the planet who only put in 8 hours a day and then called it a day. Truly successful people whether that is in art, music, technology, crafts, clothing, real estate or any other interest, will have put in hours that include day and night, day in and day out. Truly successful people do not know how to stop and they would certainly never quit.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) for just about everything. I put a little in my hands and run it through my hair, I use a little in my bathwater, I use a little as a lotion and I also drink 1 Tbsp in the morning and 1 Tbsp in the evening. I have a very low fat diet and this is a great way to get my Good fat. If I know that I'm going to cook with Olive Oil, then I will skip 1 Tbsp. on that day.
