Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.
Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.
Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Lack of sleep is one of the single worst things you can do to yourself. The results are depression, a compromised immune system, grogginess, laziness and downright bitchiness. If you are not getting enough sleep then you are taking on more than you can handle, so just admit it. Something has to go in order for you to get enough rest. This might involve using the word "No" in order to give yourself that extra time. Either find the time to cat-nap 20 minutes today or go to bed 20 minutes earlier.
As a Chiropractor I can't stand to see lazy posture. Drives me nuts! The body looks weak, vulnerable and easily infiltrated. One quick and super easy way to correct your posture is to stand up against a wall. As your heels, butt, upper back and head touch the wall, you will automatically pull your abdominal muscles in and your shoulders back. Now your posture is corrected and you can walk away with a new awareness. This puts your body and awareness in a strengthened position. You just feel stronger and more alert. Everytime you feel your core (mid-section) puff out, walk up to a wall, correct your posture and then walk away.
Everything in the house has its 'proper' space. It doesn't even make sense that books or clothes would go on the floor. As you begin putting things back in their 'proper' space, the need for housework diminishes tenfold. I always say the reason why I'm so organized is because I'm too lazy to work that hard cleaning it all up. Besides I have better things to do. When it comes to housework start thinking in terms of 'proper' space.
I always say, "When it's the Truth, it shows up everywhere." This includes our self-worth. We can easily see what we believe our worth to be by just looking around. Our self-worth shows up in relationships, salary, food and the checking account. The first step in increasing your self-worth is being aware of where you are this very minute. Remember, you say who, what, when, where, why and how much. How much can mean how much money you will settle for, how much BS you will take or how much food you will consume. You cannot demand that others increase your worth. YOU increase your worth from the inside out, not the outside in.
Having a strong work ethic typically goes hand-in-hand with reward - through name recognition, monetary gain or feeling appreciated. An individual's work ethic speaks volumes about their level of responsibility, discipline and quality. It also speaks volumes about their character. Whether or not you are happy in your current job, your work ethic will say a lot about where you are this very minute and when you are going from here. Assess your work ethic today and make adjustments where you know they are necessary.
Keeping your body hydrated can be tough for many. Open the refrigerator and assess your hydration methods. In my refrigerator there is a gallon of green tea (I use the tea bags), there is a gallon of Crystal Light and a gallon of water. I bought the gallon pitchers at the dollar store. You would be amazed how much weight you can keep off your body by keeping your body well hydrated. Many individuals can keep 5 to 10 lbs. off their body by hydrating with well thought out liquids.
