Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) is a real term used in healthcare that refers to daily basic self-care activities in an individual's residence, outdoor environment or both. The ability or inability that an individual performs their ADLs is a measure of the functional status of the individual, particularly the injured, those with disabilities and the elderly. Very young children require assistance from adults to perform ADLs since they have not yet developed the skills necessary to perform ADLs on their own.

Basic ADLs (bADLs) are the things we normally do such as bathing, dressing, feeding ourselves, functional mobility, personal hygiene and grooming. Instrumental ADLs (iADLs) are things such as housework, money management, preparing meals, shopping and work.

Sometimes it is necessary to review the rules of kindergarten to remember how to be nice to others and use Good manners. And sometimes we just need to go back to the basics of the 'Activities of Daily Living' in order to take better care of ourselves and start living Life rightly.

Below you will see 7 simple activities to accomplish at some point during the day all under the motivation of the the daily mentation question below. You have 24 hours to get through this question along with the 7 activities. READY? SET? GO!

Activities of Daily Living - Mentation Question

Am I easily led astray or do I lead others astray?

Activities of Daily Living - Hygiene and Grooming

Transitioning from wake to sleep and sleep to wake can be difficult for many. Taking a bath/shower before bedtime can help you fall asleep faster due to the change in temperature of the body, which can promote drowsiness. Upon waking, open the curtains or blinds to introduce Light or immediately turn on a lamp. It's a more natural way to wake up rather than smacking a snooze button.

Activities of Daily Living - Physical Activity

It just makes sense that the more you enjoy a particular exercise or movement, the more likely you will be to do more of it. Think about that one exercise or sport that you always Loved and then find a way to get your groovey back and get re-involved. It might be shooting some hoops, kicking around a soccer ball, etc. Remember, nothing happens without you. Literally!

Activities of Daily Living - Housework and Cleaning

An easy way to get rid of cobwebs that are too high to reach, pick up a helium balloon at the dollar store and then tie a longer string to the balloon (as long as you need) and then drag the balloon along the cobwebs and they will stick to the balloon.

Activities of Daily Living - Financial Management

Be the first in your circle of friends to say "No" to spending too much money. It just takes one person to say they are going to start using their money 'smarter' and the rest of the group will immediately agree and decide they will too. Everyone wants to be smart and feel smart, so make certain you use the word 'smart' and see what happens.

Activities of Daily Living - Work and Productivity

Identify the benefits of your job and then take advantage of them. Whether you are an entrepreneur or an employee, there are always benefits to the job. Maybe you don't see the hours, location, experience or people as a benefit. Take a new approach and gain a new perspective to your job by seeing all of the benefits that your job has to offer. There is always a Good reason for everything.

Activities of Daily Living - Food Preparation

Take the all or nothing approach to preparing food. This means either make just enough for those eating or make way too much and freeze the rest.

Activities of Daily Living - Today's Healthful Nutrient
